Artist Statement
My work explores the painterly process, with a focus on color. I am fascinated by the ways color informs a space and touches the viewer on a deep, pre-verbal level.
As a lifelong city dweller, I am captivated by the twilight beauty found in declining urban spaces: eroding building facades with a history of paint, ghosted billboards, alleyways and mismatched freight trains—offer a rich overlay of textures, patterns and colors that inspire my work.
My keenly felt experience of color is rendered through textures, marks and patches of pigment. The process itself involves the addition and subtraction of paint, scratching off layers to expose buried shapes and color. Eventually, the piece reveals its own color DNA.
