Prospective Artist
Thanks for the interest in 20 Ton Studios.
We are considering adding a few new members if we can find the right people. That said, we ask that any artists interested in joining our studio, be it short or long term, fully read the following information before reaching out to us about space.
We used to try and offer tours to anyone interested in the studio but for better or worse we have found that there simply is not enough time to meet every tour request we receive while keeping up with our own projects and schedules.
Our Own Initial Criteria for Individuals we would be most interested are artists that:
1. Truly understand what it means to work in a collective and with shared tools and spaces.
2. Expect to regularly be in the studio creating art.
3. Are self-driven to create and promote their work.
4. Are endeavoring to financially support themselves at least in part with their artwork.
5. Are okay working in larger temperature swings with the seasons.
6. Can make the most of our existing space, tools, and equipment.
Currently that would include often working with metal and/or wood.
7. Have had at least some success in the past making and selling art but are constrained by their current workspace, and for whom ours would be a major upgrade to help them grow.
Or Artists already working professionally who are looking to complete a specific project that is larger than their typical work and for which they lack sufficient space. For such cases in the past we have had individuals join us for just a short period of time and might consider doing so again.
If you can’t comfortably say ‘yes’ to at least 5 of the 7 criteria above, then 20 Ton is probably not currently a good fit for you.
Artists that are still interested are strongly encouraged to follow the link below to read a bit about the studio and how we operate.
If you are truly still interested after reading the notes, then please proceed to the link below to a questionnaire we have set up specifically for Prospective Artists.
